StellarHE is our leadership development programme for Black, Asian, and Ethnically Diverse colleagues in Higher Education.

This programme has been designed specifically to develop and implement leadership strategies that reflect the unique challenges and experiences of Black, Asian, and Ethnically Diverse academic and professional staff across higher education.

It is not a programme that looks to ‘fix’ the individual but rather aims to help colleagues to develop their networks within higher education and to discuss issues of race, opportunities and barriers within a safe, supportive peer environment. The programme also helps set project management tasks and looks at further enhancing confidence and influence with leaders.

I initially went into StellarHE mildly sceptical. However, it was an opportunity for me to understand the genuine issues faced by people of colour in the academic sector, to learn more about myself and to give me the confidence to advocate more strongly for myself and others. Would highly recommend for academics who feel that they have hit a wall in terms of their progression and development.

2024 Participant Gurdeep Singh, Research Associate, Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health
