Welcome to November’s edition of ‘What’s on?’. Here you will find everything you can get involved in for free each month, ranging from cultural, extracurricular and celebratory events and activities.
Events
Festival of science
The festival explores the world of social science, from how society has shaped our local areas to behaviours that help fight climate change. Events will take place across several UK universities (including UoM) up to Saturday, 9 November.
Digital trust seminar
Join Professor Rob Black to discover how we can enhance our cyber security measures, defend our systems and fight our cyber attackers.

Welcome event for new colleagues
Join our Welcome Event to meet new colleagues, hear from guest speakers, and join a campus tour. During November’s event, we will be joined by Head of Marketing, Andrew Simmons, who will be giving a talk on his experience at the University of Manchester.

AHEP Online Event: Building a Professional Services Career in Higher Education
This event will explore how professionals have developed successful careers in higher education, with insights from AHEP members and special guest Patrick Hackett, COO and Registrar.

Houseplant sale at the Students Union
The Houseplant Sale is back for two days only with thousands of plants, pots and accessories on offer.

Bridging the gap: An introduction to intercultural communication with China
Join the Confucius Institute for a lunchtime public talk given by Catherine Hua Xiang (LSE). Catherine will talk about her new book on 'Bridging the gap: An introduction to intercultural communication with China'. The talk will be followed by a book signing.

Instruments in Chinese music: The violin
The second event in the “Instruments in Chinese music” series hosted by the Confucius Institute will focus on the violin. The guest will be University of Manchester Musicology PhD student Ziluo Huang.

Two books this month! Lost Property by Helen Paris and Orbital by Samantha Harvey.
You don't even need to have finished the book (although there will be spoilers!). We will also recap Butter by Asako Yukuki.
