Winter heating schedule update
30 Sep 2024
Heating has started to be turned on across campus after temperature monitoring by the Directorate of Estates & Facilities
The long-term weather forecast has been closely monitored and colder temperatures are expected to settle in during autumn. As such, the decision has been made to turn on our winter heating schedule. With such a large campus, this will not happen immediately for every building, and there may be some issues as systems come back into use.
Our heating season typically runs from October until May. During the spring and autumn periods, we closely monitor forecasts to determine the optimal times to switch from the summer and winter heating modes, based on the average temperatures over any 14-day period.
Supporting our sustainability strategy
Our heating strategy aims to provide a fair balance between user comfort and the environmental impact of excessive running. We have already started working towards our zero carbon targets, with £160m of investment earmarked over the next 10 years. It is therefore important to ensure we do not waste any energy.
Furthermore, we politely ask that individual oil filled radiators, fan heaters, and coolers in offices are not used during this period, as they are energy inefficient and disrupt the effective operation of heating systems.
Occupiers are encouraged to report any localised issue experienced with heating and any heaters no longer required can be collected by the Estates Help Desk, who will ensure they are disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.
Your support, co-operation, and understanding on this matter are much appreciated.
