Applications for 100 Black Women Professors Now, a unique accelerator programme for Black women academics, researchers and PhD students are now open.

The programme aims to deliver meaningful change by increasing the number of Black women academics in the academic pipeline through working with individuals as well as institutions, line managers and leaders.

Participants on the programme take part in and benefit from mentorship, career coaching, action learning and peer group coaching, networking, masterclasses, campaign and profile-raising opportunities.   Senior leaders, line managers and sponsors are asked to consider how they can contribute to creating systemic change and work collectively to support our colleagues through the academic pipeline.

Dr Adwoa Agyemang-Benneh (Division of Population Health, Health Services Research and Primary Care, School for Health Sciences) a 2023 cohort 100 Black Women Professors Now cohort member said: ‘With an elite support team made up of a coach, a sponsor and a mentor, as well as past and present cohort members, 100BWPN gave me an exceptional opportunity to grow, identify my strengths and aspirations, and to challenge myself professionally. It also taught me the skill of negotiating the academic pathway, equipping me with the appropriate tools to thrive in the process.’

Paul Marks-Jones, Interim Director of EDI said ‘The continued development and extension of our suite of leadership programmes is testament to our commitment of fulfilling our EDI strategy.  Diversity and Equity Across our Community is one of the three pillars of our strategy and these opportunities are vital to ensure we increase representation across all our diversity groups whilst acknowledging this is not a quick fix and will be something we continually develop and invest in.  I would encourage every staff member to look at the opportunities we have across the different development programmes demonstrating intersectional commitment to every member of staff at the University.’
