Welcome 2024 - Supporting new students on campus
16 Sep 2024
Welcome Week 2024 kicks off today (Monday 16 September), marking the start of an exciting two-week period for our new undergraduate and postgraduate taught students.
The first week will feature a range of activities, offering students the opportunity to meet their peers, explore our vibrant campus, and get familiar with the city.
Welcome has been designed to provide ample time for students to connect with each other, participate in events, and begin to integrate into university life. From orientation sessions to social activities, students will have multiple chances to get involved and feel supported.
Key events will include our:
- Start of Year Fair - Taking place Monday 16 and Tuesday 17 September at University Place. Students are given the opportunity to get their university experience off to a flying start by meeting the key University services.
- Freshers Fair - Taking place Monday 16 and Tuesday 17 September in Manchester Academy. Students get to take part in fun activities and freebies, as well as finding out about the best student deals they can take advantage of during their time in Manchester.
- Campus tours - Taking place every day Monday 16 until Friday 20 September. Students can join our Student Ambassadors for a guided walking tour of campus.
- Mayor’s Question Time with Andy Burnham - Taking place Thursday 19 September in the Students Union Building Theatre. Students get the opportunity to ask the Mayor, Andy Burnham, and colleagues from other services from across Greater Manchester questions that will highlight key local issues.
AskMe support
To make sure our new students feel welcomed and supported, we’re asking staff on campus to wear AskMe badges throughout the Welcome period. These badges signify that staff are available to assist students with any questions they may have.
- If you’d like to get involved and collect an AskMe badge, please email studentnews@manchester.ac.uk.
Our AskMe ambassadors will be stationed at key locations across campus, ready to offer assistance. Additionally, our Welcome website is being updated regularly with the latest information and advice to help students as they begin their University journey.
Library support
The Library is welcoming new and returning students with our Get Started campaign.
Please direct any students to this website to find out more about the support we offer, and how to sign up to tours and events in Welcome week.
Start of Year Hub
Don’t forget to regularly check our Start of Year Hub. The Start of Year Hub is a new central repository of information to make sure you have all you need to know in one accessible place.
There you will find all the latest updates about our key operational areas, change projects and student activity, as well relevant contact information for you to escalate an issue if needed.
