Each year UCEA, the Universities and Colleges Employer Association, which oversees pay for the university sector, enters pay negotiations with the higher education trade unions (TU’s) to agree on the pay award for that year.

As part of this year’s pay negotiations, UCEA has met regularly with officers for each Trade Union (UCU, UNISON, Unite, EIS, and GMB) to reach a collective agreement on the pay award for this year.

Negotiations were due to conclude by 29 April but were extended at the request of the TU’s and a final negotiating meeting took place on 26 June.

In August, under the New Joint Negotiating Committee for Higher Education Staff (JNCHES) dispute resolution procedure, UCEA and the TUs met.

It was not possible to come to an agreement and UCEA has therefore advised employers participating in the 2024-25 New JNCHES pay round, including our university, that the pay negotiations have concluded and that they should implement the pay uplifts offered with effect from 1 August 2024.

Pay award details

For the 2024-25 pay award, colleagues will receive a £900 (pro rata if part-time) pay uplift which will come into effect in your September 2024 pay. This will include arrears for August 2024. Please note, for colleagues who receive their pay mid-month, the uplift will be reflected in your October pay.”

A further uplift will be implemented in March 2025 as set out in the table below.
