Access a range of free wellbeing and mental health support
As we look ahead towards the new academic year, here is reminder of the support available to staff including some new helpful videos to help explain what our internal support services offer specifically for colleagues.
Staff Employee Assistance Programme
‘Health Hero’ is a free, confidential and independent counselling and information support service. Call 0800 358 5997 or +44 141 271 7555 (landline alternative for international and/or mobile use). Lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. For more details on the service, please visit the Health Hero StaffNet pages.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

EDI manage the Report and Support Tool: If you or someone you know has experienced or witnessed any form of bullying, harassment, discrimination, gender based violence, hate or micro-aggressions, or have a safeguarding concern, you can report it anonymously or get support from a trained advisor.
The Colleague Wellbeing Team
The Colleague Wellbeing Team is responsible for the University’s wellbeing approach and services for employees. They are available for advice and signposting, organise wellbeing related training and development, wellbeing events and central wellbeing campaigns. Find out more on Staffnet.

Counselling and Mental Health Service

Disability Advisory Support Service (DASS)
DASS is a confidential service available to help all disabled staff access the support they need in the workplace. DASS supports staff with a range of disabilities including autism, dyslexia, mental health difficulties, medical conditions and mobility/sensory disabilities. You can refer yourself to the service or be referred by your line manager. You must first register with the service via this link. Occupational Health
Colleagues with health concerns that affect their work may be referred to the Occupational Health Service. Conversely, if work is having an impact on a colleague’s health and wellbeing, they may be referred. Colleagues can be referred by their manager or can refer themselves to the service. UoM Sport
There are many activities you can get involved in to keep you active via our UoM Sport service, including Be Active classes, discounted gym memberships, opportunities to try out new activities at beginner level for free and cycle and run commuter communities.

Wellbeing Reading List provided by the Library
The Wellbeing Reading List features over 300 titles relating to 48 wellbeing topics including anxiety, bereavement, menopause, relationships, stress, sleep problems, burnout and mindfulness. Titles are available from the Main Library in print and electronically (where possible) – information as to how to access resources is clearly detailed in the list.
The University Library also provides access to key titles relating to Counselling and Mental Health issues digitally and in print, across a wide variety of topics.

- Hub of Hope: The Hub of Hope is the UK’s leading mental health support database. You can input your postcode, select what support you are looking for and then filter through to local support. The services and support listed on the Hub of Hope are not only for when things become very difficult. They are also for those times when we notice we are starting to struggle, or when we need extra support as we start to emerge from a particularly difficult time.
