Teaching and Learning Innovation Space opens for new academic year

21 Aug 2024

The new spaces within Booth Street East, which will be our first zero emissions building, will be available to book in September.

Earlier this year, refurbishments at Booth Street East implemented the infrastructure for it to become our first zero emissions building and introduced the Teaching and Learning Innovation Space.

Since the relaunch, it now provides colleagues and students with innovative resources and blended, flexible, and accessible learning. The space now offers a range of offices and teaching areas, as well as study spaces, a hyflex teaching space, podcasting studios, and VR experience pods.

The development also demonstrates our commitment to our environmental sustainability strategy, as it will become our first zero emissions building. It is our first non-residential campus building to be solely heated by air-source heat pumps and alongside improving the thermal performance of the building, emissions have already been reduced by almost three-quarters.

What resources are now available at Booth Street East?

There are three floors of brand new facilities that will help us provide blended, flexible, and accessible learning to our communities.

1st floor: shared between the Media Service and Flexible Learning Programme (FLP) teams with rooms such as the Lifelong Learning suite, the Virtual Reality suite, and a Breakout space.

2nd floor: home to the Education Development team and Flexible Learning team offices, with a capacity of over 100 people. This floor is designed to enable effective teamwork, including shared office spaces, a large communal space, and a selection of meeting rooms.

3rd and 4th floor: the third floor provides additional office space for university colleagues, while the fourth floor is a dedicated space for commuter students.

How to book

For information on how to book these spaces, visit the dedicated Booth Street East webpage. CTS-owned spaces in the building will be available to book at the start of the 24/25 academic year. Please note that despite the document showing this, G.7 is not a space that is bookable through CTS.

Student launch event

Following on from the success of our staff launch event in May, we are excited to announce a student event will be taking place on 1 October 2024. The day will offer students the chance to book onto podcasting taster sessions, interactive VR demos and tours of the space. Information about this event will be shared with students in September.
