Consultation on our Student Voice Strategy is now open to colleagues across the University. Give your feedback.
Student voice is a critical component for creating a dynamic, responsive and student-centered academic environment, fostering a culture where students are active participants in shaping their time at the University of Manchester.
The enhancement of Student Voice has been identified as a priority over the last few academic years by the Students’ Union and University following research both externally (NSS and TEF 2023) and internally (Build Your MCR 2022 and 2023).
To support the creation of a robust foundation for the development of Student Voice, the Students’ Union and University of Manchester have been collaborating throughout this year on the development of the ‘Student Voice Strategy’. The strategy outlines our guiding principles and measures of success around four key themes: belonging, voice, change and partnership.
Within this strategy and its implementation, we will also celebrate the breadth of amazing work taking place by colleagues on student voice to share best practice and more through the establishment of a toolkit. The toolkit will be regularly updated to reflect the evolving needs of our student population.
Professor Gabrielle Finn, Associate Vice-President for Teaching, Learning and Students, said: “We are very proud of our student voice strategy. Empowering students within our university community to share their perspectives and ideas is not just about inclusion, it's about co-creating an educational experience that prepares them to become active, engaged citizens who are equipped to contribute to our university, their communities and the world.”
Aisha Akram, Wellbeing and Liberation Officer 2023/24 and 2024/25 at the University of Manchester Students’ Union added: “Embedding robust Student Voice foundations throughout our Teaching and Learning practice ensures that we are delivering an exceptional academic experience. We hope that the Student Voice Strategy will support colleagues in delivering these practices, to celebrate best practice and to empower students to co-create curriculums which reflect their unique identities.”
How can I get involved?
Throughout April 2024, students were invited to review the draft of the Student Voice Strategy through faculty-specific focus groups and an open consultation. We are now in a position to open this consultation wider to colleagues across the University.
- You can give your feedback on the Student Voice Strategy here
Within this consultation, you’ll be asked up to eight questions across the different areas in the Strategy.
The consultation will be open until Friday 6 September 2024.
What will happen next?
Following the consultation, feedback from colleagues will be reviewed and fed into a revised version of the Student Voice Strategy which will be launched as part of the Teaching and Learning Strategy Day on 14 October.
