University an exemplar in postdoctoral support

Our contribution to European University Association’s Council for Doctoral Education review of practices - and our new PI toolkit
Our University recently contributed to a review of practices for postdoctoral researchers by the European University Association’s Council for Doctoral Education – the only UK institution to do so.
The review highlighted good practice here at Manchester through initiatives such as Prosper, which supports postdocs to explore their skills and aspirations and how these align with roles in various sectors.
It also made recommendations to improve research staff experience such as ensuring the representation of research staff, as our University does through Faculty Research Staff reps, and supporting research staff into leadership training, as with our Leading for Research Fellows course.
Supporting Research Staff to thrive is a University priority. Initiatives, developed through our commitment to the Researcher Development Concordat, enhance Research Staff reward and recognition, belonging, career management and employment conditions.
PI toolkit
PIs play a critical role in the personal and professional development of research staff.
To further support our PIs at Manchester to provide the best experience for their researchers, our Researcher Development team has created a University-focused PI toolkit, written by PIs for PIs.
The toolkit brings together information on all aspects of managing researchers, with suggestions from PIs on how to approach the different aspects of the role, along with signposting to relevant policies, processes, and further support.
You can access the PI toolkit at:
