Book now: open meetings to prepare for Canvas by Instructure and SEAtS
01 Jul 2024
As we get ready to move to Canvas by Instructure from Blackboard Learning and for the introduction of our new Student Engagement and Attendance System (SEAtS), two open meetings are being held in July focussed on preparing for these transitions.
1. Our journey to Canvas by Instructure from Blackboard Learning
Join the Central Learning Environment (CLE) project panel on Thursday 11 July at 12pm to hear developments on the University’s journey moving to Canvas by Instructure from Blackboard Learn.
This is an opportunity to hear how the project team is working to ensure a smooth transition to Canvas by Instructure, supporting our students and colleagues in the process. There will also be a chance to explore Canvas through short demonstrations to see how the CLE will work for you.
The panel, including the project team and colleagues from working groups across the University, will be joined by our guest from Instructure, Rich Wall (Senior Services Consultant, EMEA).
You will be able to hear updates around:
- Progress to date,
- Data migration,
- Early access users,
- Training,
- Exploring Canvas –5-minutedemo
- Answers to your pre-submitted questions,
- Next steps and actions to take away.

The meeting will be recorded for anyone unable to attend and shared through the Canvas by Instructure pages on StaffNet.
Look out for project updates and details of future open meetings through the usual communications channels and StaffNet pages.
2. Preparing for SEAtS: Join us for a Town Hall Event on our new Student Engagement and Attendance System (SEAtS)
Starting in September 2024, SEAtS will become our new platform for recording student engagement and attendance. Implementing this new system will enable us to better support student engagement and wellbeing, by allowing us to provide timely assistance and guidance to students whenever it is needed.
Join us online on Friday, 12 July, to learn more about what this will mean for you. This event is open to all staff at the University. All colleagues involved in teaching and learning, across all departments, are particularly encouraged to attend.
Hosted on Teams by Professor Danielle George, Programme Sponsor, Professor Steve Pettifer, Academic Lead and Douglas Holligan, Project Manager, the event will cover:
- An overview of the new SEAtS system;
- What you need to know about using SEAtS;
- What happens before SEAtS goes live;
- An opportunity to put questions to the project team.

Register through our online form if you’d like to attend and the meeting link will be shared with you.
You can also use this form to submit any questions beforehand – to be answered in the session. The project team will aim to cover as many topics as possible within the allotted time slot.
If you’re unable to attend, the event will be recorded and shared on the StaffNet page afterwards.
