Inspiring and accelerating innovation, business engagement, intellectual property and commercialisation.
Do you have an idea or research which could deliver tangible benefits for the economy, society and/or environment but don’t know how to make it happen?
The Innovation Academy is here to help you access knowledge, expertise and an entrepreneurial community to enable you to commercialise your research.
The academy is a pan University initiative and joint venture between the Business Engagement and Knowledge Exchange team, The University of Manchester Innovation Factory and the Masood Entrepreneurship Centre. It brings together knowledge, expertise and routes to facilitate the commercialisation of your research.
Aline Miller, Professor of Biomolecular Engineering and Associate Dean for Business Engagement and Innovation, said: “The University has a proud history of pioneering discovery and innovation for societal benefit.
“The Innovation Academy can help academic staff, researchers and students access this rich legacy of business engagement, intellectual property commercialisation and experience to identify opportunities. It can also facilitate entry into the innovation ecosystem at the most effective point to help provide clear pathways to commercialisation.”
The Innovation Academy can help you with:
- Building University IP and research
- Building business partnerships

Full details are available on the Innovation Academy’s SharePoint site including case studies and events.
Also, if you’ve founded a start-up, spin-out or commercialised intellectual property you can join the University’s newly formed Founders Network, which is coordinated by the Innovation Academy. The network is an opportunity for those who are already putting innovation into action to meet and form a community of expertise to support their own and others’ endeavours.
