New guidelines available for communications and marketing colleagues outlining best practices for generative AI tools
The Directorate of Communications, Marketing and Student Recruitment (DCMSR) has produced new guidelines designed to help colleagues across the University working in communications and marketing roles to make the most of emerging artificial intelligence technologies.
Matthew Moth, Interim Director of Communications, Marketing and Student Recruitment, said: 'AI has enormous potential to transform our work, but we must give people the confidence to try out these tools. By covering the opportunities and considerations, these guidelines set our colleagues up to do just that. I really want to thank our working group who all volunteered their time and have helped put our university at the front of the pack in AI in this field.'
The guidelines cover:
- Key principles
- Using AI generated images, video and audio
- Privacy and ethics
- Training and development
The guidelines were developed by the DCMSR AI working group co-chaired by Alistair Beech (Social Media and Digital Communications Manager), Lynda McIntosh (Research Communications and Marketing Manager) and Jose Ignacio Barrera (Market & Student Insight Officer).
The AI working group consulted widely on the guidelines by studying guidelines developed in HE and other sectors, speaking to external experts and seeking feedback from communications and marketing colleagues across the University.
The University-wide Communications and Marketing Leadership Team has endorsed the guidelines and recommends that all colleagues creating content for communications and marketing purposes read and follow them.
