Open Source Software Club

06 Jun 2024

With the Innovation Factory, staff in the Department of Computer Science are piloting a new Open Source Software Club. It aims to partner students looking to build their CV with academic owners of research-based open source code bases, to help kick start a thriving contributor community.

In the session, we'll guide potential contributors through the process of making high quality contributions, starting with the basics of running and testing the code, then creating helpful issues and pull requests.

Code base owners will be on hand to answer queries and to advise on the kind of contributions that are needed. The club will also guide code owners in how to check contributions for safety and how to set up your GitHub organisation to encourage your contributor community.

The pilot session will take place on Tuesday, 25 June 2024 from 11.00am-1.00pm. All university staff and students are welcome to attend, though places are limited.
