University shares its Information Security Strategy

05 Jun 2024

Transforming our security to simplify, rationalise and enable us to meet our strategic ambitions with confidence

Heather Lowrie, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), introduces our Security Strategy. The strategy aims to make security an enabler for the University, allowing us to deliver our strategic goals and ambitions with confidence.

While we have already made a significant number of improvements to transform our security posture following the cyber incident last year, there is still more that can be done.

Watch Heather Lowrie talking about why security is so important for our University and what we, as part of the University community, can do.

Heather says: “Security is not just about securing our systems and data, it’s about protecting our staff, students and researchers, our operations, and our vital collaborations and partnerships.”

Training from the National Cyber Security Centre

Staff are encouraged to complete this training to become more confident with what cyber security means and learn actionable steps to staying safe online.

The training covers four key topics:

  • Defending yourself against phishing;
  • Creating strong passwords;
  • Securing your devices; and,
  • Reporting incidents.
