Largest ever Purple Wave celebrates our Bicentenary
31 May 2024
Congratulations to our colleagues, students, alumni and friends who took part in the Great Manchester Run to support our world-class research
Europe’s biggest and best 10k and half marathon event returned to Manchester on Sunday, 26 May, with thousands of runners pounding the city’s streets. And nearly 1,500 participants – all wearing distinctive purple t-shirts – created the biggest ever Purple Wave.
Our students, staff, alumni and friends answered the call to support our world-class research as part of Team 200, in celebration of our University’s Bicentenary. They are close to raising a remarkable £10,000 so far.
Every penny raised will help our very best researchers bring us closer to solving our world’s biggest challenges. From cancer to stroke, climate change to global inequality – Team 200 will help Manchester experts find the answers faster.
All Team 200 members who raised £200 or more towards our ground-breaking research were entered into a prize draw to win a pair of top-quality running shoes from the Inov-8 g-series range. Mechanical Engineering with Management student Ada Ak was the lucky winner in a draw made by Professor Stuart Allan, Co-director of the Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre, on Tuesday, 14 May.
Professor Allan said: "Congratulations to everyone who joined Team 200 to take part in the Purple Wave. You have trained and fundraised hard and deserved to enjoy every moment. Thank you for supporting our ground-breaking research."
