Join in our Black History Month activities with this family day and Café RSA event at The Manchester Museum:
Family Day
Saturday 27 October, 1-4pm
A day of activities as part of Revealing Histories: Remembering Slavery. Book for activities on 0161 275 2648.
- 1-4pm: Carnival costume exhibition and mask making workshop. With Carnival costume designer Peddy Herbert. Drop-in, Free, 5+.
- 1.30pm and 2.30pm: Revealing Histories guided tours. Book, Free, 10+.
- 1.30pm and 3pm: More than Slaves: Interactive session with researcher, Washington Alcott. Slaves transported during the transatlantic slave trade were primarily referred to as 'cargoes'. What about the remaining cargoes such as jewellery, musical instruments, cloth, food and weapons that moved across the ocean? Explore these products and discover their significance to Africa and Europe, then and now. Book, Free, 8+.
Café RSA: The Bollywood sensation

Join us on Thursday 1st November, 6:00 pm in Café Muse to find out why Bollywood is now producing more films, selling one billion more tickets and growing at over twice the rate of the Hollywood film industry.
In recent years, Bollywood has exploded onto the global media stage. In 2002 it produced 1,013 films, sold 3.6 billion tickets and generated over $1.3 billion.
Dr Rajinder Dudrah, Head of Drama and Senior Lecturer in Screen Studies at The University of Manchester, is a leading expert in the study of South Asian Popular Culture. In this event he will explore the fascination with Mumbai's movies and what they tell us about Hindi Culture, through many audio-visual examples and the chance for full audience debate
