Volunteer Recruitment Ambassador Pilot
22 May 2024
Could you be a volunteer Recruitment Ambassador?
We are looking for volunteers to pilot the use of inclusive Recruitment Ambassadors that can ensure inclusivity throughout University recruitment.
This is a pilot project. We are seeking to learn from this process and make recommendations for expanded use.
Are you committed to advancing Equality Diversity and Inclusion across our institution? Looking for an opportunity to be able to demonstrate that commitment?
If the answer is yes to both questions, then the Recruitment Ambassador role may be suitable for you.
Making our recruitment process more inclusive is a key goal of the University and there is significant level of work to be done. This role seeks to reduce biases and potentially discriminatory decision making at the shortlisting, interview, and appointment stages of the recruitment process.
Key points of the ambassador role:
- They remain impartial and independent throughout the process.
- They can respectfully challenge decisions and discussions.
- They are NOT part of the interview panel and will not ask questions of the interviewee.
- They can be from any grade or standing – this can be seen as a developmental opportunity to understand how the shortlisting and interview processes work.
- They would need permission from their line managers to participate.
- They must have undertaken Recruitment TRS01 Training for PS posts in the past three years (we will putting on an additional training session for those who have not had yet the chance to complete it yet)
- They would have undertaken Unconscious Bias and Diversity in the Workplace training within the past three years (both can be completed online).
- They provide feedback to panel members during the decision-making process on any issues relating to equality and diversity e.g. use of inappropriate criteria for making decision.
- To ensure our ambassadors reflect the diversity of our staff population, we welcome applications from all groups within the university. We would like to particularly encourage colleagues from grades 1-4 to consider this opportunity.
