EDI Conference - Wednesday, 26 June

23 May 2024

Creating communities since 1824 - Our people, our values

EDI Conference

The Directorate of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion will be hosting their annual Conference on Wednesday, 26 June, 10am - 2pm at Crawford House and online.

For this year's conference, we are focusing on Communities. Specifically, we will be framing the Conference around the University's Bicentenary Strapline "Creating communities since 1824 - Our people, our values". We would also like to add "our future" to this.

We will be examining the progress made by the University since 1824 in building communities, particularly through the lens of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. We hope that by examining the progress made, we can be informed of the steps we need to take in the future.

The Conference will look at how communities have been built and supported internally such as staff and students but also externally, particularly how the University has engaged with the wider Greater Manchester Community.

We are pleased to announce that our guest speaker for the Conference will be Nusrat Ahmed, Curator of the South Asia Gallery at Manchester Museum.

We will also have workshops focusing on EDI Data, Charter Marks (Athena Swan and Race Equality Charter), Disability and a UNICEF Scheme, 'Child Friendly Cities'. Details of workshops are being finalised. Those who reserve a ticket on Ticket Source will be invited to choose a workshop.

Once the workshops have concluded, we will invite attendees to listen to our panel. This will focus on the different leadership training schemes championed by the EDI Directorate such as Aurora, 100 Black Women Professors Now, LGBTQ Leadership and Result Disability Development Training. We will have past participants from each scheme to discuss their experiences, how this has helped build a sense of community and the impact on their careers.

If you are unable to attend in person, there will be an option to attend remotely and join a workshop.
