Supporting students with new engagement and attendance tool
09 May 2024
From September 2024, SEAtS will be our new tool to log students’ attendance. Having one consistent and accurate attendance system across all Schools will help us actively support monitor student engagement and offer help and advice to individuals when they need it.
Student engagement in their studies is not only important for academic success – it's also a vital indicator of a student’s wellbeing. SEAtS will help identify students who may be struggling academically or personally, so we’re able to quickly and effectively offer any support they may need.
Have your say
- Our student attendance policy: This policy is being updated alongside the implementation of SEAtS. You can read a draft of the new policy and add your thoughts via the documents’ comments. You can also sign up here to attend an online drop-in session happening on 21 and 23 May.
- The new SEAtS system: We’re holding focus groups where you’ll get the first chance to try SEAtS and give your feedback. If you’d like to be involved, sign up here.
The new system will be used initially by undergraduate and postgraduate taught students based on campus. Once the rollout is complete, it will replace our current patchwork of different local attendance systems, such as registers in Schools and the visa check-in process.
How SEAtS works
- Log in to the SEAtS website (we’ll share the link to this before September)
- Find your teaching activity.
- Show a QR or pin code on screen at the start of the teaching sessions. Or for smaller classes, take a digital register
The final version may look slightly different but here are some example 'how to' guides:
- Watch: Show a QR code
- Watch: Complete a digital register
Colleagues delivering teaching activities will be sent more information on how to access and use SEAtS via email prior to September, alongside Teaching, Learning and Student Experience colleagues, who will also be supporting the use of SEAtS.
