Do you need External Calling for Teams?
24 May 2024
Colleagues whose roles change and find themselves in need of Teams Voice External Calling will also require the correct Microsoft licence
External Calling is now operational for all colleagues with the correct licence, but there will be some who do not have this licence and may need this functionality.
Teams Voice External Calling enables staff on a Microsoft A5 Staff or Faculty Licence to make and receive calls from external numbers via their University of Manchester MS Teams account.
As part of the Phase 2 rollout of Teams Voice, most colleagues have been automatically updated, but as licences are costly, certain groups were not included in the migration.
Colleagues who were not updated but require a Teams Voice External Calling licence can still be granted one with written justification from line managers and their agreement to pay any additional licencing costs.
Line managers are asked to provide a business case to their local Telecoms Liaison Officer who will then raise a ticket for the individual requiring the licence uplift.
- More information about acquiring a Teams Voice External Calling licence uplift and about the wider project is available on the project’s SharePoint site.
