Measuring the carbon impact of commuting
Every two years our University, in line with Our Sustainable Future Environmental Sustainability Strategy, calculates our carbon footprint from staff and student commuting, providing valuable insight and helping us work towards our zero carbon commitments.
In order to do this an online survey is being carried out to capture anonymous travel information to build up a picture of the breadth of journeys taking place, how this impacts on the environment and areas for improvement.
A selected sample of staff will receive an email from the Environmental Sustainability Team inviting them to complete the travel survey using Qualtrics (the University’s preferred survey tool). The survey should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete and is being undertaken by Axis on behalf of the University.
No individual responses will be identified in the analysis and your details will not be passed on to any third parties. The data will only be shared between The University of Manchester and Axis. All postcode data recorded will be utilised solely for emissions calculations, analysis and reporting purposes.
Staff and students will be invited to participate from 22 April until 10 May. The online survey will be shared with students and supplemented with face-to-face surveying by field researchers from MHC Traffic.
