From 22 to 26 October during Manchester Science Festival
Nowgen, a centre for genetics in healthcare, is organising several free public events as part of the 'Faces of Manchester' project which will run during Manchester Science Festival. This project has been funded by The Wellcome Trust.
Monday 22 October, 12noon-1.30pm
Understanding Faces : 'Don't let the way I look affect the way you see me'
What challenges are faced by people with facial disfigurement? How are genes involved in the development of the face?
Tuesday 23 October, 12noon-1.30pm
Perfect Faces : Is beauty only skin deep?
What makes a face beautiful? Will scientific advance be driven by the quest for perfection?
Wednesday 24 October, 12noon-1.30pm
Evolving Faces : Past, present and future
Can we use our faces and DNA to find out more about human origins? How might we continue to evolve in the future?
Thursday 25 October, 12noon-1.30pm
Family Faces : Appearances can be misleading
Does sharing similar appearance with a relative make us believe that we will develop the same illnesses as them?
Friday 26 October, 12noon-1.30pm
Identifying Faces : The future of genetic identity
Who should be allowed to store details about our faces and DNA? How will technology change CCTV, passports and DNA databases in the future?
Attendance is FREE but booking is recommended. Complimentary buffet and drinks provided.
