Do you need to re-record your Microsoft Teams voicemail?
03 Apr 2024
Voicemail is one of the great features of Teams Voice calling in the Microsoft 365 suite of apps, which is why Teams Voice users are encouraged to make sure their custom greeting is up to date.
Microsoft is migrating all recorded custom greetings but a minority of recordings will not be able to be migrated, specifically users who have not received a voicemail in the last six months.
Recording a voicemail message is easy and users are advised to keep it short, including their name, role and team for clarity. If users do not have a custom voicemail message, callers will hear a default greeting instead, which might be seen as impersonal or indicate their voicemail goes unused.
How to set up a custom voicemail message
To set up a Teams Voice voicemail message, in Microsoft Teams, click the three dots in the upper righthand corner of the window and select Settings. Then select Calls from the menu on the left. Configure Voicemail takes you to the step-by-step instructions for recording a new message.
By recording a greeting, your voicemail will automatically be migrated by Microsoft and callers will know the voicemail function is active and that their message will receive your attention.
