'From Blogs to Wikis - a Complete Guide to Social Media'

Welcome to the latest in the 'Communications Matters' series of lunchtime workshops, which are aimed at helping staff improve their communication skills.

'From Blogs to Wikis - a Complete Guide to Social Media' will take a closer look at the many different ways we can use technology to help us communicate.

It will explain the differences between the most popular forms of 'social media' including webcasts, podcasts, wikis, blogs and more. We'll also look at when it's best to use new media and when more traditional forms of communication are more appropriate.

The workshop will also take a look into the future to see how social media may develop in the coming years.

This session is open to any member of staff here at the University and will be of particular interest to anyone who has to communicate either with colleagues or students within the University, or with audiences in the outside world.

The session is being led by Chris Bignell, director of XL Communications and a former Head of Communications at both Motorola and Toshiba Mobile.

'From Blogs to Wikis - a Complete Guide to Social Media' is being held on Tuesday 30 October starting at 12.30pm and finishing at approximately 2pm.  The session will take place in the Knowles Committee Room on the Whitworth Hall Corridor.
