Supporting students with their dissertations and final projects
15 Mar 2024
With dissertations and final project deadlines on the horizon, it’s a good time to take a look at the support available for students through the library and the My Learning Essentials programme.
Here are some key ways you can help support students at this crucial time of year.
- Direct them to our comprehensive range of online resources
The Library support team have created a dedicated online resource, Start to finish: Dissertations for useful information students can work through in their own time, as well as links to supporting workshops.
It’s also worth directing them to other online resources available from our Library, covering topics such as proofreading and understanding plagiarism. These can help students to produce their best work, whatever stage they are at.
- Recommend workshops and drop-in support
Students can be pointed towards the collection of in-person and online workshops covering a range of skills and topics. From writing effective introductions and critical analysis, to referencing, as well as some practical sessions to help students manage their time and overcome procrastination, these sessions will help them feel confident to tackle substantial pieces of work.
Students can be directed to the full range of the Library’s training and support. They can also contact or speak directly to a member of the Library team via Library Help & Support.
- Help them to navigate stressful and busy times
To support students at what can be a very stressful time of year, the Counselling Service run regular online workshops, including mindfulness sessions as well as sessions to help manage anxiety. Some of the sessions are available to both staff and students.
