Open Meeting on the RAE 2008 - 25 October
11 Oct 2007
Professor Nancy Rothwell speaks about the University's RAE submission
Many of us are wondering what happened to the summer this year, with a distinct lack of sunshine. But to some of our staff this may have been a blessing. They have spent recent months working hard on various aspects of our submission to the Research Assessment Exercise, with a final deadline of 30 November 2007.
The results of the RAE will be known in late 2008, and will influence both the research funds we receive from HEFCE and of course our reputation. This in turn influences many further funds and our attractiveness to new academic and research staff and students.
On Thursday 25 October, Professor Nancy Rothwell, Vice-President (Research), will host an Open Meeting for staff on the above topic. Her opening presentation will include a perspective on the scale of the RAE information-gathering operation and on the "interesting challenges" posed by the RAE submission software! She will also talk about the involvement of members of University staff in the RAE judging process and about the need to think about "what next?" Finally, she will acknowledge the contribution not only of the academic staff who have taken a major role in the RAE process, but also that of the many administrative staff in Schools, Faculties and in the Centre who have provided truly outstanding support for RAE.
Afterwards, members of the audience will be invited to put related questions to Professor Rothwell.
The Open Meeting will take place between 12noon and 1pm in Lecture Theatre G51, Chemistry Building, Brunswick Street. The Chemistry Building is number 61 on:
All members of staff are welcome to attend. Seats will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
