Nirvana and Magha Puja Day
15 Feb 2024
Celebrating Nirvana and Magha Puja Day this February
Nirvana Day marks the passing of the Buddha when it is believed he reached Nirvana. Nirvana is the belief of the end of the cycle of life, death and rebirth. Buddhists may spend the day meditating and reflecting on their lives, and how to gain Nirvana.
Magha Puja also marks key moments in Buddhism, the moment the Buddha ordained Buddhist monks and the gathering of monks to hear the announcement from the Buddha about his impending death. Time is spent meditating on the three key aspects of Buddhism, which are: the Buddha (his enlightenment), the Sangha (the community of Buddhist believers around the world) and the Dharma (the teachings of the Buddha).
Wishing all our Buddhist colleagues and students, peace and joy on Nirvana and Magha Puja Day.
