Enhancing student engagement - the new way to record attendance
25 Jan 2024
At our University, we believe that consistent attendance and active engagement with a programme of study are important factors, in both academic success and maintaining a balanced, healthy student life
In September 2024 we will be introducing a new University-wide system, provided by SEAtS Software. This will help us identify any concerns relating to attendance. These may arise from personal, health or other challenges and allow us to provide better support for students to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. It will also make it simpler for students to demonstrate that they have met any attendance requirements related to accreditation, regulatory or legislative obligations from external bodies.
Undergraduate and Postgraduate students on taught programmes can record their attendance via a mobile app, by scanning a QR code or entering a numeric code shared within a class.
The system replaces the temporary check-in system currently used for students with University-sponsored visas and the earlier ‘My Attendance’, which was used prior to the cybersecurity incident in June 2023. It is used at many other UK universities.
Professors Danielle George and Steve Pettifer from the project will be attending School Board meetings this semester. Colleagues will also hear more about training and testing over the coming months. In the meantime, we welcome any thoughts or comments by email to the Project Manager, Douglas Holligan.
