Mahayana New Year
25 Jan 2024
Happy New Year to all our Buddhist staff and students
We would like to wish all our Buddhist staff and students a very happy Mahayana New Year!
In Mahayana (one of the two main offshoots of Buddhism) the New Year symbolises a fresh start, a time for introspection and personal growth, and an opportunity to recommit to the core values of kindness, compassion, and wisdom.
Mahayana festivities include honouring Buddhist gods, visiting temples, lighting candles for luck and happiness over the coming year. Celebrations also include gift giving, feasts and fireworks.
