Computational Medicine and Digital Twins Improving Medical Care takes place on Friday, 12 January as part of the Knowledge Miles lecture series
Professor Alex Frangi, Director of the Christabel Pankhurst Institute and the Bicentennial Turing Chair for Computational Medicine, will speak at the Lord Mayor’s Lectures Series on Friday 12 January about computational medicine and digital twins in healthcare.
In his online lecture Computational Medicine and Digital Twins Improving Medical Care, Professor Frangi will set out a new realm of possibilities as we explore ground-breaking advancements in medical technologies. He will outline the remarkable progress made in this field, involving academia, industry, regulators, and policymakers.
In the rapidly evolving landscape of medical innovations, ensuring the safety and effectiveness of novel technologies is crucial. The traditional approach to testing can be both time-consuming and costly, especially when dealing with challenges like rare diseases, paediatric patients, and underrepresented ethnic groups.
Computational Medicine underpins in-silico trials. These computer-based trials use digital twins, or virtual patients, to simulate and assess medical products. By leveraging computer models and simulations, we can proactively optimize devices for intended clinical outcomes, minimizing the risks of side effects and potential failures. This approach is set to transform health and life sciences research and regulations.
The UK has a unique opportunity to lead in the realm of in-silico trials, positioning itself as a global leader in health and life sciences. This not only contributes to the nation's economic growth but also ensures early access for UK citizens to innovative health products. Join us on this journey into the future of medical research and development.
Knowledge Miles: The Lord Mayor's Lectures, is an online webinar series originated by the 695th Lord Mayor of London, The Rt Hon the Lord Mayor Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli. The series explores the connections of the Square Mile and how its knowledge clusters are addressing diverse global challenges.
