Chinese Cultural Show staged by the Confucius Institute

Live performances of tai chi, calligraphy and music on 10 October

This show highlights some of the everlasting forms of Chinese cultures and arts and is your opportunity to see live performance from masters and professional artists. A brief introduction will be made for each performance and audience can ask any questions you may have for our experts.

• Tai Chi - Master Liming Yue holds a 7th Duan Wei, officially awarded by the Chinese Government National Martial Arts Association. Master Liming Yue originally began the study of Shaolin martial arts as a child in China in 1972. Eleven years later, amazed by the skills of a young student from the famous village of Chenjiagou he began his journey to understand the internal arts by studying orthodox Chen Style Tai Chi under the 11th generation Chen Masters in the village. He runs his Chen Style Tai Chi Centre in the UK.
• Calligraphy - GE Yuan started to learn Chinese calligraphy from five years old under the supervision of Mr. Jiang Hongjun. Ge Yuan masters Tang dynasty regular script especially Yan Zhenqing's style, Wei epitaphs, running script and Tang dynasty clerical scripts. Ge Yuan won 1st prize in calligraphy contests on provincial level and countrywide level for several times. His calligraphy art works were published in two art collections and preserved in Shaanxi Qianling (Tang dynasty emperor's mausoleum) Museum.
• Chinese Music - Xu Anlin is the principal oboist with Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra and a member of Chinese Traditional Orchestra, Zhejiang. He learned to play Chinese bamboo flute as a child and has a vast repertoire of Chinese music. His career reached peak with his solo concert in 2006 and did the European tour performing in Vienna, Munich, and Amsterdam.
