New fundraising appeal making a difference to Manchester research
20 Dec 2023
Our University’s new winter fundraising appeal highlights the difference donations are making
This year’s appeal showcases Manchester’s research achievements over the last 200 years and what we hope to achieve in the next 200, as we approach our bicentenary year. It also features brilliant people who are carrying out exciting research projects at our University, specifically in the fields of sustainability, health and global inequalities.
Donations from alumni, staff, and other friends have already played an important part in delivering life-changing research. PhD student Mary Newland is one of more than 1,500 donor-funded researchers. And the world-class Paterson Cancer Research Building, which opened its doors in spring, was supported by thousands of donors and fundraisers.
This year's fundraising appeal will ask our University community (alumni, staff and friends) to make a donation to support Manchester’s world-leading research. Specifically, gifts will provide flexible funding to help scale up the number of early-career researchers working across critical areas.
More than £10,000 has already been raised by staff and alumni – with lots more gifts set to come in over the Christmas period.
Every penny will help scale-up our research teams in critical areas – so they can tackle some of the world’s biggest challenges.
If you have any questions about the appeal, please contact our giving team at supporters@manchester.ac.uk.
