Speaker bio
Dr Katherine Deane is an Associate Professor in Healthcare Research at the University of East Anglia (UEA) in Norwich. Her research investigates the everyday management techniques needed to maximise wellbeing in people with long term conditions and disabilities e.g. medication and dietary adherence, falls prevention, and interventions for depression and anxiety. Katherine has worked with international pharmaceutical companies to create a checklist for quality patient engagement across all stages of drug development.
Katherine is also a disabled person with a progressive neurological condition who uses an electric wheelchair, has mild visual impairment and struggles with anxiety and depression at times.
This drove her to create the role of Access Ambassador to UEA. In five years, her Access All Areas team have transformed their 1960's campus into one of the most accessible campuses in the UK. She is determined to highlight the opportunity cost to universities and society of not ensuring that teaching and research is fully accessible.
