Organised by The Modern Caterer, the people behind the award-winning Gallery Cafe at the Whitworth Art Gallery, the Real Food Fair is a celebration of real good food - nourishment, enjoyment, ethical choices.
On Thursday 11 October, the grounds of the Whitworth Art Gallery will feature a festival of good food. Part of Manchester Food and Drink Festival, the fair features award winning local food producers including North West Fine Food Producer of the Year Port of Lancaster Smokehouse, Mrs Kirkham's Lancashire Cheese and Cains Brewery Liverpool and local campaigners Food Futures and Manchester Green City providing information and advice on nutrition, Fairtrade and much more.
A screening of the award nominated documentary film, Black Gold, will take place in the lecture theatre of the gallery at 2pm. The film follows Ethiopian Union Co-operative Manager Tadesse Meskela on his mission to save his 74,000 coffee farmers from bankruptcy and get a fair price for his product and through this journey the film exposes the extreme imbalance of power and wealth in the coffee industry. Tickets for the screening cost £2.
The fair will also feature the judging of the Divine Chocolate Cake Competition. The search is on for the ultimate Divine chocolate cake! The prize includes a Divine Chocolate and luxury food hamper, lunch for two at Gabriel's Kitchen and the winning recipe will be reproduced in the Gallery Cafe and Gabriel's Kitchen. Enter at:
Other activities and events include an Introduction to Pilates class in the serene environment of the Whitworth's South Gallery and Gabriel's Kitchen Children's Cookery Workshop.
