New Whitworth Director to give this year's Pilkington Lecture

The Friends of the Whitworth are delighted to welcome Dr Sook-Kyung Lee as the 2023 Pilkington Lecturer
The title of this year's lecture is: "soft and weak like water: on the power of art".
This year's lecture will take place on Thursday, 26 October, from 6pm to 8pm in the Whitworth's Grand Hall.

About Dr Sook-Kyung Lee
Joining from London's Tate Modern, Sook-Kyung took up the role of Director of the Whitworth in August 2023 and is also Honorary Professor of Transcultural Curating at our University. Speaking about her appointment, Sook-Kyung said: “It is a huge honour for me to take up the role of Director at the Whitworth, one of the most innovative and audience-focused art institutions in the UK and internationally. I have admired the Whitworth's commitment to work with local communities and to use art for positive social change. I would like to further develop the gallery in its artistic rigour and social impacts and to widen its global connections, along with the gallery's dedicated staff and The University of Manchester.”
