Update: Access to Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC) restored
06 Oct 2023
Further to yesterday’s message about the temporary closure of one of our buildings, we are pleased to say that the Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC) will be open as usual from today (Friday, 6 October)
Friday, 6 October
The tresspassers have left the site and Campus Support and Security will continue to run additional patrols in the area.
However, as large parts of North Campus are vacant (including Renold Building, The Mill, Pariser Building and Sackville Street Building), we suggest for your safety that you don’t use shortcuts through the main North Campus, particularly after dark, and stick to using main thoroughfares such as Sackville Street and Oxford Road instead.
- If you need assistance from our Campus Support and Security team, our 24 hour control room can be contacted on 0161 306 9966.
- You can also download our SafeZone app to get help at the touch of a button.

Members of the public, unconnected to the University, have gained illegal access to the North Campus site, despite additional measures having been put in place by our Campus Support and Security colleagues, including increased patrols and roadblocks.
Our Campus Support and Security team is working closely with Greater Manchester Police to manage the situation and we will reopen the building as soon as possible.
In the meantime, the safety of our colleagues and students is our priority, and we suggest avoiding using the cut through to North Campus near to the Pariser and Renold Buildings, using main thoroughfares such as Sackville Street instead.
Both colleagues and students who are primarily based on North Campus have been contacted this morning.
We will provide an update as soon as possible.
