This year’s celebrations will take place on Wednesday, 18 October at 4:30pm in the Whitworth Hall
President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell invites you to join our Foundation Day lecture, honorary degree ceremony and dinner in the historic surroundings of the Whitworth Hall. Foundation Day recognises when The University of Manchester in its current form was created in 2004 by the amalgamation of the Victoria University of Manchester and the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST). We mark this occasion every October by celebrating our Foundation Day.
This year’s Foundation Lecture will be delivered by Deborah Gold, who is Chief Executive of the National AIDS Trust (NAT). The title of the lecture is: “HIV has changed. Tell everyone.”
Following the Foundation Lecture, Honorary Degrees will be conferred upon:
- Ms Deborah Gold, Chief Executive of the National AIDS Trust (NAT)
- Catherine Hall, Emerita Professor of History, Chair of the Centre for the Study of the Legacies of British Slavery at UCL
- Sir Kevin Leeson, former Air Marshall and Chief of Materiel (Air) in Defence Equipment and Support
The occasion will conclude at approximately 8.30pm.
