Diversity Champions Programme: applications open

Following a successful pilot in 2022/23, the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Directorate are delighted to recruit for the new cohort of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Champions programme with Be What You See Consultancy Ltd
The programme aims to raise awareness of barriers that underrepresented groups face in society and the workplace whilst equipping staff with the knowledge skills and confidence to champion good practice in the area of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. This programme is being offered across our University and will focus on how we as staff can adapt our working culture to create a more inclusive work environment.
The training is delivered over a 12-month period and colleagues will have the opportunity to receive training from leading third sector organisations and trainers in areas such as anti-racism, LGBTQ+, Neurodiversity and Active Bystander Theory.
Who is eligible?
The programme is open to all colleagues including Professional Support staff, academics and postgraduate researchers. All applicants should have the support of their line manager, to attend the full programme, as their support and involvement will be critical to the programme.
How many places are available?
There are a total of ten places available for the 2023/2024 cohort.
What is the time commitment?
Applicants must be available to participate in all activities during the programme which will be taking place in person and on campus. Due to the nature and delivery of the programme we are not able to offer this online or in a hybrid manner. If you would like to discuss this in more detail, please contact us.

- Anti-Racism - Day 1 - Tuesday, 28 November 2023
- Anti-Racism - Day 2 - Wednesday, 29 November 2023
- Train the Trainer - Theme 1 - Thursday, 25 January 2024
- LGBTQIA+ - Day 1 - Wednesday, 20 March 2024
- LGBTQIA+ - Day 2 - Thursday, 21 March 2024
- Train the Trainer - Theme 2 - Tuesday, 23 April 2024
- Neurodiversity - Day 1 – Wednesday, 5 June 2024
- Neurodiversity - Day 2 – Thursday, 6 June 2024
- Train the Trainer - Theme 3 - Thursday, 4 July 2024
- End of Programme - Half Day - Wednesday, 4 September 2024
Timings are 10am-4pm, apart from the final session
How to apply:
- Please email equalityanddiversity@manchester.ac.uk with approval from your line manager and a few lines regarding why you would like to become a Diversity Champion before Friday, 22 September in order to be considered.
- Please note: This course is a 12 month course and you must be able to commit to and attend each session. Should you fail to attend more than one third of the total meetings, then a charge of 30% will be made to your work area. Please therefore ensure you have full line manager support and they are aware of this information.
