Nominations open for our bicentenary 'walk of fame' style installation

01 Sep 2023

Submit your nominations for our bicentenary installation, celebrating our people

2024 bicentenary

As part of our 200-year celebrations in 2024, we’ll be unveiling a special bicentenary installation on campus – similar in style to the Hollywood walk of fame. Designed to celebrate our people, the space will feature 200 individuals and teams from our incredible history, offering an on-campus opportunity to learn more about the stories that shape us here at Manchester.

With collaboration at the heart of our bicentenary celebrations, we’re welcoming nominations from our staff, students and alumni on who should feature in the space. The University of Manchester’s history is rich with stories of change makers, innovators and community builders but who amongst them do you think deserves to be celebrated?

When making your nominations, please consider that alongside our historical icons, like Alan Turing and Christabel Pankhurst, this is an opportunity for us to shine a light on some of our lesser-known heroes. Staff, students and alumni who truly embody our values, our community spirit and, what it means to make a difference.

If your nomination is selected, you will be entered into a prize draw to win two tickets to the bicentenary legacy space unveiling, alongside some very special guests.

Making your nominations

Make your nominations using our online nomination form by Friday, 29 September. There is no limit to the number of nominations you can make.

What happens next?

A shortlist of nominations will be agreed by the Bicentenary Oversight Group in 2023 (a group made up of Professional Services, academic and student representatives from across the University). These names will then be approved by our Board of Governors.

Note that due to the need to uphold confidentiality, it will not be possible to keep nominators informed of ongoing progress.

Under-represented groups

Nominations for individuals and teams in under-represented groups are particularly welcomed and a series of EDI checks and balances will be made during the selection process, to ensure we achieve a balanced representation of our people and their backgrounds and nationalities, across our final installation.
