Hairdresser Julie is a cut above the rest after 36 years

Julie Kryworuk styles and cuts hair in our Students' Union - and is a much-loved, familiar face to students and colleagues

In a video filmed and produced by one of our student content creators, Aidan Rhode, Julie reminisces about some of the clients she's had over the years. She says what she really likes is when former students and colleagues come back to see her when they're in Manchester - and even get their hair cut again while visiting! 

She recounts the story of a student who came in and said his dad also studied at Manchester. While having his hair cut, he sent a text message to his dad - and it turned out his dad was also a former customer of Julie's, back in the day when her salon was in the Union basement! 

Julie is renowned for gifting her customers a slice of cake, and her generous gestures are much appreciated by clients old and new. 

Film creator Aidan said: “I had a haircut with Julie in my first year and I was immediately struck by her kindness, interest, and the fact she’s worked at the Students’ Union hairdressers since the 80s!

"I had so many questions about the changes she’s seen over the years and the thousands of students she has spent time with that I had to get it on film and share it with the world.”
