11 July – Degrowth and Technology in Fashion Debate and Afternoon Tea (Resourceful Futures)

Date and time: Tuesday, 11 July | 13:45 - 17:00

Location: 3A.016, Engineering Building A

From the Resourceful Futures Challenge Area, this event will be a debate-style session with networking and an afternoon tea.

Sustainability is a key issue within the fashion industry, if you are wondering how degrowth and technology may enable a more sustainable approach, this event is for you.

Hear about recent research led by Dr Katia Dayan Vladimirova, Lecturer at The University of Geneva and founder of the Sustainable Fashion Consumption Network, which has over 200 members globally. Her research interest is linked to sustainable fashion consumption, with a specific focus on de-growth and sufficiency. Katia will provide key insights into her research and also how she is actively shaping policy by posing challenging questions.

Dr Katia Dayan Vladimirova will be in conversation with Dr Courtney Chrimes, who is a Lecturer in Digital Fashion Marketing at The University of Manchester. She conducts research on the intersection of fashion and digital technology. Courtney is interested in the application of blockchain technology within the fashion industry and more specifically, how this technology can be used to help facilitate the transition to a circular economy. By delving into this topic, she aims to unravel the various ways blockchain can be harnessed to foster sustainable practices and drive positive change within the industry.
