Centre for New Writing - first season's events
03 Sep 2007
Readings and Q&A sessions with some of today's best-known writers, plus high-profile literary debates
The Centre for New Writing in the School of Arts, Histories and Cultures has announced its first season's events. These will begin on Monday 24 September, when Professor of Creative Writing Martin Amis will be joined by Man Booker winner John Banville and leading author Will Self for a debate on on the state, role and future of writing in the 21st century.
The debate will be the first of a series of high-profile public events, featuring Martin Amis and other leading writers and commentators discussing key issues in contemporary literature. These will complement the Centre's regular 'Literature Live' events, which bring the best-known contemporary novelists and poets to Manchester to discuss and read from their work.
Everyone is welcome, and ticket prices include a complementary glass of wine or soft drink (except Martin Amis public events). A bookstall run by Blackwell University Bookshop will be open throughout each event, with discounts available for ticket-holders.
