Helping others is associated with increased feelings of wellbeing and, with this in mind, ‘give’ is one of our University’s six ways to wellbeing.
As we recognise the importance of focusing on our wellbeing, today we launch Purple Pounds.
Purple Pounds is our new look payroll giving scheme – it’s the same nationally commended scheme but under a new name. It’s part of our wider Purple giving offer.
Purple Pounds enables you to give regular donations to your favourite charitable causes by donating directly from your pay.
Professor Nalin Thakkar, Vice-President for Social Responsibility said: “Payroll giving allows our staff to make a difference for their favourite charitable causes by enabling them to receive the full taxable amount of our staff’s one-off or regular donations without any additional cost to them”.
Why donate via Purple Pounds?
Purple Pounds is our nationally commended payroll giving scheme in which your donations receive immediate tax relief.
You donations are boosted by 20% for standard rate taxpayers, 40% for higher rate taxpayers and up to 45% for additional rate taxpayers. This means your charitable causes receive your donation, as well as the amount that you’d normally pay in tax at no extra cost to you.
Which charitable causes can I support?
Donations can be made to any UK registered national or local charity, or recognised good cause – including places of worship, schools and foodbanks.
You can nominate more than one charitable cause to benefit from your donations, and you can easily change the amount or nominated causes at any time.
If you’d like to make a difference close to home, you can choose to support University of Manchester students and research or donate to Manchester Museum. Just look for The University of Manchester when making your donation.
How do I sign up?
