Google Analytics is changing
05 May 2023
Google Analytics is a free web analytics tool that is used on many University sites to track and report website traffic
The current version – known as Universal Analytics – will stop processing new data on 1 July and any web traffic after this date will not be registered.
Google has introduced a new platform called Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to replace Universal Analytics. If you are a website owner and want to continue to track traffic data to your site, it is essential to switch to GA4 as soon as possible.
If you are a Staffnet microsite owner, you don’t need to do anything as GA4 has already been rolled out on all microsites. For other University sites, digital teams are working to make them ready for migration to GA4, and in most cases, site owners are not required to take any action. However, if you want to ensure that your site continues to track traffic data, you can contact your Faculty or department‘s digital team for more information (contact details below).
If you are responsible for a site but don’t have the support of a digital team, you may need to make your own arrangements to switch to GA4. If you have access to the site code, you can do this yourself following these instructions provided by Google. If your site was developed externally, you may need to contact the developer or agency and request that they make the change.
