Celebrating the contribution of our staff networks

03 May 2023

Celebrate and join staff networks at an event on Wednesday, 10 May

Staff network day 2022

At our University we take a holistic approach that celebrates individuals and their many identities so that we are a truly inclusive organisation.

Our staff networks play an important role in creating an inclusive, diverse and accessible environment by feeding into our EDI Committee, EDI Forumand our Charter Mark submissions.

Next week, we will be celebrating the contribution of our staff networks and their achievements by marking National Day for Staff Networks on Wednesday, 10 May.

Reflecting on the past year, Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Banji Adewumi said, “Wevalue the input of our staff networks and the part they play in achieving our strategic aims set out in Our future, as well as the EDI strategy.

“This is the first year that four of our staff networks (BAME, Disabled, LGBT+ ALLOUT, Women@Manchester) have been allocated Senior Executive Sponsors. These sponsors will assist these networks with their work around equality groups and ensure they have a voice and representation at all levels. You can watch Patrick Hackett’s reflection on his role as ALLOUT Champion in a video below.

“Throughout the year our staff networks have also hosted a number ofimportant events recognising history months, guest lectures and social events for network members.

“I encourage you to attend our celebratory event on Wednesday, 10 May and also get involved by joining a network or becoming an ally.”

What is a staff network?

Staff networks provide an opportunity to network with people from all over the University whilst also offering advice and support.

Any member of staff can join and participate in any of our staff networks and can attend up to four meetings per year plus an associated activity from their standard working hours.
