Manchester Gold is a well-established mentoring scheme for all colleagues led by Learning and Organisational Development (L&OD). It matches mentees and mentors at all grades, Academic or Professional Services, across the University to support staff development and share experience.
In 2022 we had almost double the number of applications from mentees than mentors.
We welcome applications for mentors from all grades, but we are particularly seeking applications from PS mentors in Grades 3-5 as we have had a very high number of applications from mentees seeking a mentor at this level.
No prior mentoring experience is required; we will provide mentor skills sessions and support for new mentors covering a range of topics, including different styles of mentoring, exploring the stages of a mentoring relationship, and more.
Mentoring is a great way to develop communication and people skills that are transferable into their own workplace. For people wanting to move into management, it is a great way to demonstrate skills used for managing others and practice types of conversations encountered in the workplace. It shows an interest in people that can be added to CVs and help with job applications.
