Cyber Essentials: new certification

Cyber Essentials

Our University has renewed its Cyber Essentials (CE) certification, which runs from 21 March 2023 to 21 March 2024. 

Previously, those who required CE certification for work they were carrying out, were able to download a copy of the certificate to prove that work carried out would be compliant. However, as this only covered devices managed by IT Services, this meant that around 20% of work was not covered by the certificate. The requirements for certification have now changed, and we need to pay closer attention to who needs it, and which devices they are using. 

To ensure work requiring CE is managed appropriately, anyone who needs it must now declare it to IT Services who will move relevant devices onto a secure project network. This is so our University knows who is CE compliant, what they are doing and manage it properly. While the process has not been fully agreed, it is likely that those accessing the secure project network will need to sign an agreement to confirm they will follow the security measures outlined in the certification.
