Big Saturday - Ancient Egypt Day

15 Aug 2007

Visit Manchester Museum This Weekend

Manchester Museum is holding its latest Big Saturday event on Saturday 18 August - and it's all about Ancient Egypt!

How did the Egyptians live, what did they eat, how did they entertain themselves and why did they bury people with so many objects? Find out the answers to these and many more interesting facts about Ancient Egypt, in Manchester Museum's Big Saturday family friendly activity day on Saturday 18 August.

Handle real objects and see examples of Egyptian mammals in the Mammals gallery. Play Sennet, an Ancient Egyptian game, make pyramid jewellery or discover the meanings of the hieroglyphs and look out for them in the Museum. Follow a trail around the AfterLife exhibition to find out why objects were buried and what they represented.

Andrea Davies, Curator of Egyptology said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to discover more about Ancient Egypt, meet the Museum's mummies, and find out about the Egyptians in life and their beliefs surrounding death and the afterlife."

Activities take place in the Discovery Centre from 11am — 4pm. Big Saturday events are usually free and drop-in, but some may cost £1.50 or require pre-booking. Please ring 0161 275 2648 or visit www.manchester.ac.uk/museum to find out more.
