SafeZone campus engagement recognised with award

10 Mar 2023

Our University has won the Community Engagement category at awards hosted by Critical Arc, the owners of SafeZone

SafeZone award win

Paul Greenlees, Deputy Head of Campus Support and Security, and Ian Halliwell, Crime Reduction Advisor, accepted the award at a ceremony last week.

Critical Arc recognised the exceptional work our Campus Support and Security and ResLife teams have done to promote SafeZone, through engagement, events and giving advice. In particular, they were impressed with our use of SafeZone to specifically target the needs of vulnerable students and staff, in conjunction with the Advice and Response team.

Paul Greenlees said: “Since September 2022 when we relaunched our SafeZone campaign, we have achieved 6,000 users, which in such a short timeframe is greater than any other university within the UK.

“Without doubt, collaborating with a number of University teams has greatly helped to achieve the substantial increase in SafeZone take up.

“The support of senior management is also a major factor in our success. We would like to give a special mention to Dr Simon Merrywest, Director for the Student Experience, for all his help and encouragement, which has resulted in our work being recognised by Critical Arc.”
